Day 2 - Protest Spaces, Different Faces.

Parliament, 5th of September, 2019.

Our President addressed the collective body.

The police were on their best behaviour.

It is my duty to respect and authentically represent the many faces and bodies present within these spaces through my photography. Showing how these spaces, and faces are treated differently in accordance with the individuals and bodies present.
In ensuring how the many experiences of Gender-Based Violence is to be heard and treated equally through the eyes of the public and further, the South African governing bodies of law and presidency

saw many women of colour and public school children in protest outside of the World Economic Fourm the day before. I saw them facing various forms of police brutality. Not only police brutality but also the unjustly and unheard responses from those in positions of power. Including our President. The collective body present on Day 2 demanded that President Ramaphosa appear and so, he did.

A 'surprise' to us all.

This brought to mind how this very epidemic of Gender-Based Violence indefinitely affects the collective body of women and children. Whereby the bodies present at both protests translates the many levels of difference in the experiences of Gender-Based Violence across the polarised realities of race, class, gender, and sexuality rooted in Mother Africa's soil.
